Dar es Salaam.

Hali Halisi managing editor Saed Kubenea is headed for nomination as the Chadema parliamentary candidate in Ubungo after emerging victorious in primary polls yesterday.

In the party’s primaries held at Api Forest at Kimara Baruti, Mr Kubenea obtained 61 votes (71 per cent) against his competitors Goodluck Mollel who got 20 votes and Paul Luhada who got four votes out of 85 votes cast.

Speaking to this paper, Mr Kubenea expressed his gratitude to the voters and promised to ensure the constituency remains under Chadema.

Ubungo’s outgoing MP John Mnyika is now running for the newly established Kibamba seat.
“I want to assure my fellow party members that I will not allow this constituency to go to any other party,” he said.

But primaries were postponed in Kibamba where Chadema voters were set to vote for their aspirants, including Mrt Mnyika, yesterday.

One of the candidates who did not want his name mentioned said he was surprised that the polls were postponed and no reason was given for that. He suspected that the move aimed at favouring some aspirants.
“We prepared for the election today but when we arrived here we were told it had been shelved because some of the aspirants were not informed… there are must be something,” he said.
Six Chadema members have picked up forms seeking party nomination for Kibamba.
